Furness Enterprise

Furness Enterprise was formed in 1991 as a local private/public sector partnership to deal with the consequences of massive redundancies in the Furness area of SW Cumbria.  It is a ‘not-for-profit’ social enterprise.  Its activities concentrate on working with companies to help them to create and safeguard jobs in a very deprived area, working with individuals to assist them into self employment, and helping those without jobs to secure jobs or be better able to.

Furness Enterprise has been recognised for its work on Worklessness winning a National Enterprise Award for Combating Worklessness and through its work ensuring that Barrow in Furness got a Green Flag award for exceptional performance/innovation in tackling worklessness from the Audit Commission.
